More than 200 people gathered at the Thirsty Sportsman in Des Moines to honor Kelly Starrett, 49, a longtime musician killed in a boating accident on the Des Moines River. Several of Starrett's former band members turned out to play in his memory, and a benefit raised funds to help the family with funeral costs.

A year after the accidental drowning of 5-year-old Kaden Daniels at Valley View Aquatics Center in West Des Moines, the pool implemented safety changes including new depth signs, colored depth lines, and an additional lifeguard. Kaden's mother, Ciji Cook, discussed her family's ongoing grief and the city's decision to place a memorial bench outside the center.

Cancer survivor Drennan Fischer and her team completed the 3,000-mile Race Across America, led by radiation oncologist Dr. Richard Deming. Fischer, a Des Moines native diagnosed with breast cancer shortly before the birth of her second child, trained for months before joining the team of cancer survivors who cycled 400 miles per day around the clock. More than 100 supporters welcomed them home in West Des Moines.
Great Northern Radio Show
Wrote comedic sketches for 12 shows over several years for the Great Northern Radio Show, a live radio variety show produced for Northern Community Radio that toured small towns across northern Minnesota.
